It was never boring in Lale Akgüns family. This was already ensured by the different family members: the father a fun-loving and class-competitive dentist, the mother a distinguished and quick-witted Kemalist and the aunt Mekka pilgrim and lover of German Leberkäs. With fine humour and great warmth, Lale Akgün tells stories of her wonderfully crazy family between the Bosporus and the Rhine, and of Turks and Germans who are so different and yet so alike.

    About the author

Lale Akgün, born in Istanbul in 1953, came to Germany with her family when she was nine years old. She studied medicine and psychology and has been a member of the Bundestag since 2002. She deals with issues of migration and integration and acts as the SPD's spokesperson on Islam policy.
